TL;DR

Import articles from your current tool by exporting them as HTML or CSV, then uploading to Kairoo. Export from Kairoo as Markdown at any time — no lock-in. Migration typically takes under an hour for most help centers.

Importing from other tools

Most help center tools let you export articles. Here's how to get your content out:

From Zendesk Guide: Admin > Knowledge base > Export to CSV. You'll get a CSV with titles, bodies (HTML), and categories.

From Intercom: Articles > Export. Downloads as CSV with HTML content.

From Freshdesk: Solutions > Export. Gives you articles as a file.

From Help Scout Docs: Manual copy or API export.

From Notion/Confluence: Export as Markdown or HTML.

Once you have your content as HTML, CSV, or Markdown, import into Kairoo through the dashboard. Categories, titles, and content body are preserved.

Exporting from Kairoo

Kairoo supports Markdown export — download your entire knowledge base as structured Markdown files with frontmatter (title, category, published date).

This means: - You always have a backup of your content - You can migrate away from Kairoo at any time - Your content works in other tools, Git repos, or static site generators - No vendor lock-in — your knowledge base is your data

Export from Settings > Data > Export Articles.

Migration tips

Review during migration. Don't import and publish blindly. This is a chance to prune outdated articles, merge duplicates, and improve titles.

Redirect old URLs. If your old help center had SEO traffic, set up redirects from old article URLs to new ones. This preserves search rankings.

Test search. After import, search for your top questions and verify the right articles appear. Search relevance depends on title and content quality.

Announce the change. If you have a custom domain, the switch is invisible to customers. If the URL changes, update links in your product, emails, and footer.

Frequently asked questions

How long does migration take?

For most help centers (10-50 articles), under an hour. Export from your current tool, import into Kairoo, review and publish. Larger help centers (100+ articles) may take a few hours.

Will I lose SEO rankings when migrating?

Not if you set up proper 301 redirects from old URLs to new ones. Google transfers ranking signals through redirects. Rankings may dip briefly but recover within 2-4 weeks.
